We are thrilled to share the exciting news that our inaugural nationwide coding competition, Coders' Coliseum 2024, is open. Organized by Kids for Kids Toronto Coding Club, this event is open to all children residing in Canada, aged 4 to 18 years, and the best part – it's free! Here are the key details:

 

1. Competition Rounds:

   - Round 1: Open to all children aged 4 to 18 in Canada.

   - Round 2: The first 100 winners from Round 1 in each category.

   - Round 3: The top 10 winners from Round 2 in each category.

 

2. Competition Categories:

   - Tiny Coders (4 to 6 years)

   - Junior Coders (7 to 12 years)

   - Teen Coders (13 to 15 years)

   - Senior Coders (16 to 18 years)

 

This coding extravaganza is designed to inspire creativity, problem-solving, and innovation among the young minds of Canada. Get ready for an incredible journey into the world of coding!

Prerequisites 

The prerequisites for participating in Coders' Coliseum 2024 are as follows:

1. Residency Requirement:
   - Participants must be residents of Canada.

2. Age Range:
   - Individuals aged between 4 to 18 years are eligible to participate.

3. Independent Learning:
   - Participants should be self-learners, as no coaching will be provided during the competition.

4. Equipment:
   - Each participant should have access to a computer and a code editor.

5. Internet Access:
   - Participants must have reliable access to the internet.

6. Acceptance of Terms:
   - Agreement to abide by the terms and conditions set forth by our coding club is mandatory.

7. Rule Adherence:
   - Participants should be able to follow the rules and guidelines provided for the competition.

8. Creativity and Problem-Solving Skills:
   - A prerequisite is possessing good creative and problem-solving abilities, crucial for navigating the challenges of the competition.

Junior Coder - Winner - $300

Indeed, talent will be acknowledged. In each category, the top 5 children will be awarded trophies, while all participants selected for the second round will receive certificates. Moreover, the overall champion trophy will be presented to the most exceptional coder. In each round, the participant with the highest points will be honored with a trophy. Additionally, the awards ceremony will take place in front of a large audience, providing a special moment to celebrate your achievements. Furthermore, our media partners will publish your accomplishments, ensuring that your success reaches a broader audience.

The "Tech Titan Trophy Night 2024" is an esteemed awarding ceremony meticulously organized by the "Kids for Kids Toronto Coding Club." It is scheduled to take place on Monday, August 12th, 2024, at the Chinese Cultural Centre - PC Ho Theatre, commencing from 4:00 pm until 10:00 pm.

When is the Competition

The inaugural round of Coders' Coliseum is set to kick off in January 2024. Code submissions will be accepted starting from January 15th, 2024. On this date, a link will be made available for code uploads. The deadline for the first round is April 15th, 2024. Subsequently, the deadlines for the second and third rounds are will be announced. Mark your calendars, as the grand awarding ceremony is scheduled to take place in Summer 2024.

How Many Rounds

Coders' Coliseum, our nationwide coding competition, comprises three rounds of competition within each category: Round 1, Round 2, and Round 3.

Round 1 of the competition is open to individuals aged 4 to 18 residing in Canada. The coding phase begins on December 15th, allowing participants to work on their projects from the comfort of their homes. Submissions can be initiated from January 15th, and the deadline for code submission is on April 15th 2024.

Round 2 is exclusively reserved for the initial 100 winners from Round 1 in each category, resulting in a total of 400 participants. Commencing on March 1st, Round 2 allows participants to submit their projects until the deadline on April 30th allowing participants to work on their projects from the comfort of their homes.

The ultimate stage, designated as the Final Round, is exclusively for the top 10 winners from Round 2 in each category. This phase will be conducted in person, bringing together a total of 40 participants at a single venue. Within a span of 5 hours, contestants will undertake the challenge of completing their projects, followed by a presentation before the judges. The breakdown of this phase involves four hours dedicated to coding, a 30-minute break, and a concluding 30-minute presentation. As the final round approaches, sample presentations will be shared to aid participants in their preparations.

The Rules

For Tiny Coders, the development of projects can be undertaken using code.org CS Fundamentals or Scratch Jr. The submission process is simple – participants can submit the project link alongside the application form when registrations open on January 15th, 2024.

Junior Coders, on the other hand, are encouraged to utilize Scratch 3 for their projects. Similar to Tiny Coders, they can share the project and submit the corresponding link starting January 15th.

For Teen Coders and Senior Coders, the submission process offers flexibility. Participants can either directly upload the file to our website after January 15th or choose to push their code to GitHub and share the provided link. This versatility aims to accommodate various preferences and practices within these age groups.

The criteria that may lead to disqualification include:

1. Plagiarism:
   - Copying others' ideas or replicating projects from Google without due acknowledgment, highlighting the importance of respecting intellectual property.

2. Copyright Compliance:
   - Utilizing images without proper copyrights, emphasizing the need for participants to ensure they have the appropriate permissions.

3. Rule Adherence:
   - Failure to adhere to the rules stipulated by Kids for Kids Toronto Coding Club.

4. Non-Acceptance of Terms:
   - Disagreement with the terms and conditions outlined by the coding club.

5. Late Submission:
   - Projects not submitted on or before the specified deadline date.
